SERVICE PROJECTS

In addition to the monthly school-wide projects below, various classes do smaller community service projects such as writing letters to our US troops, collecting books for Children's Medical Center, creating gift bags for the parish's Prayer Shawl ministry, etc. Through performing these service projects, students gain a sense of human compassion, learn the importance of civic responsibility, and realize the blessings bestowed upon them.

School-wide Community Service Projects

September: Food/supplies drive in conjunction with Mary Immaculate Church Fall Festival - The Mary Immaculate Church Fall Festival is a Community event and fundraiser for the Mary Immaculate Church and School. This service project will help with donations of goods needed to run this event.

October - Baby shower drive in conjunction with the White Rose Women's Center: The White Rose Women's Center is a crisis pregnancy center serving pregnant women medically, economically and spiritually. They are in need of baby items, used women's clothing and maternity clothing.

November - Food drive in conjunction with St. Vincent de Paul: This food drive helps fill the pantry of St. Vincent de Paul to allow them to providing food, to people facing economic, emotional or spiritual crisis during Thanksgiving and Christmas.

December: Toy drive in conjunction with St. Vincent de Paul: The Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Dallas and surrounding counties is a non-profit organization providing personal assistance with food, clothing, rent, utilities, transportation, medicine and companionship to people facing economic, emotional or spiritual crisis. This Christmas season toy drive fulfills the wishes of many area children for Christmas presents they would not normally receive. Items from this project are combined with Mary Immaculate Church's Christmas Bell gifts plus food drive items to create full Christmas packages for underprivileged families with children.

January- Clothing Drive in conjunction with the Austin Street Centre: The Austin Street Centre exists to provide emergency shelter and related services to the homeless person in a compassionate community, and to provide “whole person” therapeutic programs so that the person in need might be better able to make responsible choices, positive changes and have economic self sufficiency. Our project supplies much need used and new clothing and toiletries. In addition, the Jr. High students make sack lunches on this day to give them a better perspective on the life of the homeless.

February - Support of the Mary Immaculate School Heart of Gold Auction through class gifts, family donations and volunteering.

March - Toiletries/paper goods drive in conjunction with the AIDS Services of Dallas: AIDS Services of Dallas provides housing, meals, and transportation to people with HIV/AIDS. Our project supplies toiletries and paper goods required to support those seeking help.

April - Food drive in conjunction with St. Vincent de Paul: This Food Drive is the final project of the school year. It seeks to help fill the shelves of St. Vincent de Paul to allow them to continue providing food, to people facing economic, emotional or spiritual crisis.
