Chess Club (ages 6 up)
Studies show that chess helps improve academic skills while building self-confidence. Our 10-week Chess Club program, held on campus after school, is taught with professional instructors who are experience chess professionals. The students progress rapidly in their understanding and abilities as they experience fun, interactive learning followed by supervised game play. Tournaments are held the last few classes of each program.
No equipment is necessary, as all boards, pieces, and chess clocks are provided during class sessions, as well as take-home instruction sheets. A fee is charged for instruction.
Musical Theatre Club (ages 6 up)
Age appropriate classes offer children the opportunity to explore historical musical dance & dramatic styles, music theory, and the elements of musical theater through a variety of vocal, instrumental, rhythmic and creative performance activities.
Science Club (grades 1-5)
Explore the world of science in Life Science, Physics, Chemistry, Earth Science, and Astronomy with hands-on experiments. Conducted in the MIS Science Lab, these sessions encourage learning and critical thinking.
Robotics Club (grades 6-8)
Robotics at MIS is a teacher and parent run club for grades 6-8. Students in robotics work hands on with the Legos EV3 program and materials in small groups. The students program the robots they create to carry out specific functions, eventually preparing for the Diocesan competition in the spring.
Speech/Drama Team (grades 6-8)
The Speech/Drama Team competes in three diocesan tournaments during each school year.
Gardening Club (grades 7-8)
Gardening at MIS is a teacher and parent run club for grades 7 and 8. Students in gardening enjoy planting different fruits, vegetables, and herbs with each changing season. The work begins with clearing out the three raised-bed gardens and culminates with delicious additions to the dinner table!
